A Prayer While Kneading Dough

Kneading dough offers time to pray for loved ones: for healing, a marriage match, peace at home, livelihood and our children's wellbeing. This prayer connects our requests with the prayers of Moshe Rabbeinu.

A Prayer While Kneading Dough

While kneading dough, we have enough time to pray for all our loved ones, naming those who need healing, a shidduch (a marriage match), shalom bayit (peace at home), parnassah (livelihood), as well as the spiritual and material wellbeing of our children. The following prayer connects us and our prayers with the teacher of the whole Jewish people, Moshe Rabbeinu, and with his appeals to the Creator, so that the strength of his prayer may support us.

Translation

Please, Almighty G-d, grant me the merit to prepare dough that has the quality of a new creation and of holiness. Since the word challah echoes words meaning yearning and hope, help me merit to yearn for You and pray to You with all my heart. As it is said of Moshe Rabbeinu, “And Moshe pleaded” (a word sharing a root with “challah”), may the prayers of the Faithful Shepherd take effect on our behalf, and may we merit to go out joyfully to greet the Bride on the holy Shabbat that comes to us for good.
