Preparation
We have recently become keen on cakes where the main thing is simplicity of preparation. In Israel, my husband took up baking in earnest, which is very surprising, but has already become a tradition. He takes a thorough approach to everything, which means that all recipes are scaled to fit a particular pan, and ingredients are weighed and carefully checked... After all, technique is everything to us.
In Moscow, though, we did not have a mixer, but we found a wonderful baking pan in which I made a cake using an old recipe of my grandmother's. And it turned out perfectly! By the way, we are now collecting cake recipes—and trying them out :)
Beat the eggs with the butter and sugar. Pour half a cup of milk and half a cup of sour cream into the mixture. Add baking soda neutralized with vinegar, salt, vanillin, and raisins to taste. Add the flour and beat everything together until the mixture has the consistency of sour cream.
Bake for 1 hour.
