Preparation
Grandma’s meat pie is a traditional Jewish recipe. Enjoy this hearty, fragrant pie, and rest assured that Grandma would be pleased :)
Coarsely grate the chilled margarine and mix it with the sifted flour until the mixture resembles fine crumbs. Add a cup of cold water, the eggs, egg yolks, salt, baking soda, and vinegar.
Knead the dough, wrap it in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for 1,5-2 hours.
Finely chop the onion and fry it in hot vegetable oil. Put the meat, already boiled or fried, through a meat grinder. Mix the meat with the fried onion and margarine. Add 2-3 tablespoons of broth, season with salt and pepper, then add the finely chopped herbs. Mix everything thoroughly and let cool (well-cooked rice may be added).
Take out the dough and roll it out. Spread a layer of the meat filling over half of the rolled-out dough, followed by a layer of chopped eggs and another layer of meat filling, then cover everything with the dough. Place the pie on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Bake in a preheated oven at 180 degrees for approximately 25-30 minutes, or until done.
