Preparation
Summer, the heat is at its peak... everyone knows you need to drink plenty. But what if plain water doesn't appeal? Wonderful, refreshing homemade lemonade—without preservatives or a lot of fuss!
Put the lemons in the freezer overnight. In the morning, peel them and blend them together with the sugar. Add 1-1,5 cups of hot water to the mixture (if any seeds float to the surface at this stage, they will be easy to remove).
Leave the lemon syrup to steep for about 15 minutes, stir again, and pour into bottles. This makes approximately 1,5 liters of syrup—that is, 3 half-liter bottles.
Each bottle gives me enough for 4 liters of delicious homemade lemonade—we simply dilute the syrup with water to taste as needed.
This syrup also keeps very well in the refrigerator—for up to about a month.
You can add mint leaves and ice cubes to the finished lemonade :) Enjoy!
You can make an orange drink in the same way, using a ratio of 1:1 (fruit to sugar).
