Prayer when kneading the dough

Kneading dough offers time to pray for loved ones: for healing, a marriage match, peace at home, livelihood and our children's wellbeing. This prayer connects our requests with the prayers of Moshe Rabbeinu.

Prayer when kneading the dough

While kneading dough, we have enough time to pray for all our loved ones, naming those who need healing, a shidduch (a marriage match), shalom bayit (peace at home), parnassah (livelihood), as well as the spiritual and material wellbeing of our children. The following prayer connects us and our prayers with the teacher of the whole Jewish people, Moshe Rabbeinu, and with his appeals to the Creator, so that the strength of his prayer may support us.

תפילה בזמן הלישה

EnglishHebrewEnglish transliteration

Please, Almighty One, grant me the merit of preparing dough that embodies new creation and holiness. As “challah” is related in sound to words for longing and hope, help me merit longing for You and praying to You wholeheartedly. As it is said of Moses our teacher, “Moses entreated”—a word related to challah—may the prayers of the Faithful Shepherd be effective on our behalf, and may we merit going out joyfully to greet the Bride, the holy Shabbat that comes to us for good.
