Together, we have assessed our wardrobes, sorted through our clothes, and identified the occasions we dress for.

Now our task is to see what we're missing and exactly what will fit into our wardrobes. Today we'll talk about a capsule wardrobe.

A capsule wardrobe is a minimal collection of clothes that allows for the maximum number of outfit combinations.

A capsule wardrobe is useful when deciding what to pack for a vacation or business trip (especially when there are limits on the weight or size of your suitcase). A capsule wardrobe is also useful when planning your work wardrobe. It is also useful for creating a wardrobe for any occasion where we want to get by with a limited number of items. The fewer clothes we have, the easier they are to care for, and the easier it is to choose what to wear. Getting ready will take just a few minutes if your capsule wardrobe is put together properly.

The basic principle of a capsule wardrobe: the clothes should coordinate in color and style.

The number of "tops" (blouses, knit tops, jackets, vests, cardigans) should be 3 or 4 times the number of "bottoms." After all, what usually catches our eye is what is closest to a person's face. And we usually wash "tops" more often.

If we have 2 "bottoms" and 6 "tops" in our wardrobes, we can put together at least 12 different outfits. There you have a varied wardrobe for 2 working weeks.

To create varied outfits that are not too conspicuous, it is best to choose "bottoms" in neutral shades from your color season.

Neutral colors include all shades of beige, gray, denim blue, and olive. To keep your wardrobe from becoming boring, we can add accessories—scarves, pendants, brooches, and so on. And here you can play with both color and  style!

If you're choosing shoes for your capsule wardrobe, it is best to pick a neutral color, such as gray or beige. Black doesn't suit everyone, and it often makes an outfit look heavy.

When putting together a capsule wardrobe, it is highly advisable to know your color season, since all the colors within a single season combine easily with one another.

Try putting together a capsule wardrobe for a particular occasion using clothes you already own. What style did it turn out to be?

Tell us in the comments: do you know your color season and body type?
