The ideal wardrobe! First, it's something that can bring us joy. Second, a wardrobe like this saves us time and energy if we make that its purpose.

Who can boast of having an ideal wardrobe? And what does that mean to you? Each of us may have her own definition.

An ideal wardrobe consists of clothes that:

*meet your needs

* are easy to combine

*are easy to care for

*flatter your face and figure

*express their owner's personality

*draw admiration from others

If you've chosen your own options from those above (I'd be happy to read your additions in the comments), then—what is still standing between you and your ideal wardrobe? Let's leave money out of the equation. We are talking about an ideal wardrobe within our means.

Where should we start? By assessing what we already have.

To begin, sort through your clothes and check them against your own criteria for an ideal wardrobe.

What you should get rid of:

Clothes that sit in your closet as dead weight: they don't fit, are no longer usable, have snags and pilling, and you still haven't found the time to deal with them. Most likely, you never will.

If need be, you can set yourself a deadline (a week or two), then throw them away with a clear conscience. Also give away clothes you don't like, even if they were a gift from someone dear to you.

Next time, we'll talk about building a basic wardrobe and assessing clothes from a stylist's point of view.
