If you completed the first assignment (assessing your wardrobe), you should have only wearable clothes left. Many of us have some items of clothing that are wearable but, once again, hang there unused.
Everything we don't wear but keep (for another season or special occasions) needs to be put out of sight and reach. These things only get in the way when you choose clothes for everyday wear, create a sense of overload, and use up a valuable resource.
How can we work out what to keep in the closet and what to remove?
There is a shortcut: invite a stylist to your home to sort through your closet. And there is a longer route that will also bring results.
Try the "Hanger" exercise:
Take a hanger to serve as a divider in the closet. Hang it at the very end, on the right. In the morning, put on an outfit, and in the evening, hang it on the other side of the divider. Or, after washing it, return it to the right-hand side, where the clothes you have already worn hang.
You can use the same item again if you pair it with something you haven't worn yet (make a note of which items you used more than once).
What is the point of this exercise?
First, you can check how many outfits you have and how many days your current wardrobe will last you.
Second, in the other half of your closet, you will find clothes that:
*You don't feel like wearing at all
*Are out of season right now
*Items that have nothing to go with them
Ask yourself a few questions:
- Is variety important to you?
- Was this exercise easy for you?
- Did you feel like wearing the same thing for several days?
