Preparation
The feigelach, bird-shaped challahs that we eat at seudah hamafseket, the final meal before the fast, commanded to us by the Almighty, express our hope for His mercy and deliverance on the Day of Atonement.
Prepare the challah dough as usual, let it rise, and, if your dough contains enough flour, separate challah.
Then tie a thick rope of dough into a knot. Decorate one end of the knot with raisins and stretch it forward to form a beak. Make cuts in the other end with a knife to form the bird's tail. The feigele is ready!
