A Torah teacher and daughter of Rabbi Yitzchak Zilber, whose work explores Tanakh, Jewish history and family life.

Rebbetzin Chava Kuperman: Torah for women and Jewish family life

Rebbetzin Chava Kuperman teaches Torah to Russian-speaking women. She was born in Tashkent into the family of Rabbi Yitzchak Zilber. According to Toldot Yeshurun’s biographical profile, she began teaching as a young woman at her father’s request. Her husband is Rabbi Avraham Kuperman.

Learning and passing on tradition

Her classes cover Tanakh, prayer, the Jewish calendar and questions of women’s lives. She has taught at Michlalah in Bayit Vegan and addressed women’s audiences in Israel and abroad. In her published interview with Migdal Times, she discusses Jewish family life and preparing a young woman for marriage, connecting the study of laws with an understanding of their meaning.

Tanakh and the history of the Jewish people

A particular strand of her work follows Jewish history through biblical texts. The Twelve Tribes of the Jewish People was prepared from recordings of her lessons. Our magazine features her articles on the matriarchs, prophets, festivals and family relationships. They place familiar narratives within a wider context: their participants, their relationship with the Jewish people and what the story can teach a person today.
