Rabbi Yitzhak Silver writes halachic works about everyday relationships between people. Hebrew bibliographic records give his name as Yitzchak Aizik Silver. One of his central works is Mishpatei HaShalom, a systematic treatment of bein adam lechavero, the obligations a person has towards others.
From a general principle to a particular action
The book addresses helping others, respect, causing offence, truthfulness and responsibility for speech. A related work, Emet Kneh, discusses the laws of truth and falsehood. These subjects are treated as an area of halachah requiring study and careful application, rather than as general aspirations alone.
Books and Russian-language publications
Toldot Yeshurun publishes his Paths of Peace and Goodness series, which includes parenting, honouring parents and the prohibition of harmful speech. In our magazine, articles attributed to Rabbi Silver also address shidduchim: gathering and sharing necessary information, avoiding deception and protecting people’s dignity. The purpose of a conversation, the accuracy of its information and its possible consequences all matter in such questions.
